Reinventing Presentations with Tome (AI)
Not Deleting Microsoft PowerPoint Anytime Soon...

Tome’s beta is short of what it promises to deliver on its landing page.

Stick to Microsoft PowerPoint + ChatGPT + Midjourney for the time being. The concept behind the app is promising. Reevaluate in six months.
It’s only the second week back in the office after the Christmas holidays, and my LinkedIn feed is blowing up with post after post of “50 Awesome ChatGPT Prompts” and “The Best AI Apps to Accelerate Your Startup!”
As I had mentioned in my previous post A Million Dreams, I wasn’t going to be one of those writers who launched every single copywriting hook that ever existed in order to get someone to read the blog. I was going to give a behind the scenes look.
Naturally, I downloaded all the ChatGPT prompt guides and lists of AI tools and one in particular caught my eye: Tome, the AI presentation builder that appears to use ChatGPT and Dall-E on its back end.
I had two major ideas in mind for using AI presentation software:
Create a slide deck demonstrating how to use AI to augment a position at a client’s company.
Re-create a better version of my Real Estate Blockchain presentation I had to prepare to finish a Coursera course.
Great Landing Page…But Missing Promised Features
Their main marketing pitch is to:
“Type in a prompt and watch Tome generate entire narratives from scratch or create additional content pages within seconds. Use our DALL·E 2 tile to create compelling images, tailor-made to bring your idea to life.”
The caveat is that this application is in beta given its URL and on the landing page, they are using somewhat refined pictures and demonstrating feature sets that don’t appear to be implemented, such as command prompts to insert background video, rewrite text and video narration. By video narration, I was under the impression that there was a text-to-speech generator built into the platform, but in this instance, you had to record your own video and audio.
A Few Tries…and Then I Gave Up
When I initially logged in, I was excited at the prospect of building a presentation for my client on how AI could be used to augment the role of a particular position at at the company. What it spat out was repetitive and generic and typical of a bad ChatGPT prompt.
Then I attempted a more generic prompt on a subject matter the AI “should” know about:
"How to use AI to automate a solo-entrepreneur's business"
That still gave me a garbage presentation. So I thought, “let me use ChatGPT to generate a presentation outline using the prompt above” and ChatGPT gave me this:
Prompt:
Write a presentation on "How to use AI to automate a solo-entrepreneur's business" that can be used in PowerPoint.
Slide 1: Introduction
Introduce the topic of using AI to automate a solo-entrepreneur's business
Explain why this is important and relevant
Slide 2: Benefits of using AI
Discuss the benefits of using AI, such as increased efficiency, cost savings, and improved decision making
Slide 3: Types of AI that can be used
Explain the different types of AI that can be used, such as machine learning, natural language processing, and computer vision
Provide examples of how each type of AI can be applied to a solo-entrepreneur's business
Slide 4: How to implement AI
Discuss the steps involved in implementing AI in a business, such as identifying the problem to be solved, selecting the appropriate AI technology, and training the AI system
Provide tips on how to ensure a successful implementation
Slide 5: Use cases
Provide specific examples of how AI can be used in a solo-entrepreneur's business, such as automating customer service, analyzing data, and optimizing marketing campaigns
Provide case studies or success stories of solo-entrepreneurs who have used AI in their business

Encourage the audience to consider how AI can be used to automate their own business
Slide 7: Resources
Provide links to additional resources for more information on AI and how it can be used in a business.

Encourage the audience to ask questions about the topic, and provide answers to any questions that were not addressed in the presentation.
Then, I proceeded to paste everything to the end of Slide 5 into the Create Prompt in Tome, and Tome gave me the following:

Rex’s Take on Tome:
This app is not ready for prime time and will require substantial improvement before the reality lives up to the hype. If you’re using AI to create a prompt to plug into another AI and it spits out something inferior, there’s a potential problem.
ChatGPT can write an introductory paragraph that looks like this:
As a solo-entrepreneur, it can be challenging to manage every aspect of your business on your own. One way to ease the burden and increase efficiency is by using artificial intelligence (AI) to automate certain tasks. AI can help with tasks such as customer service, data analysis, and marketing, allowing you to focus on the more important aspects of your business.
By implementing AI, a solo-entrepreneur can save time and money, and make better-informed decisions. In this presentation, we will explore the benefits of using AI, the different types of AI that can be used, and how to implement AI in a solo-entrepreneur's business.
The key points made in the ChatGPT version are:
Examples as to what AI can automate, such as customer service, data analysis and marketing
A lead-in to the next slides on the benefits, different types of AI and most important, HOW to implement. If you don’t tell the reader that they’re going to learn how to do it, there’s no reason to read past that point.
The Tome generated paragraph came up with:
Using AI to automate a solo-entrepreneur’s business is important and relevant because it can help increase efficiency, reduce costs and facilitate better decision making.
The key is to identify the correct AI technology for the business and ensure a successful implementation.
It was written in the style of a 7th grader. Tell me something I didn’t already know.
As for the Dall-E-2 pictures that were auto-generated, Slide 4 would probably deter most readers from going on.
Summary
If I want to build a pitch-deck, I’m sticking with PowerPoint. Using Midjourney (MJ)correctly takes a lot of time, as their prompts are sophisticated, but even a weak MJ prompt still generates something better in my opinion.
